In 1965, the esteemed Kochen Rinpoche and a few other monks constructed the Buddha Temple, a Tibetan monastery also known as the Mindrolling Monastery, with the goal of advancing and safeguarding Buddhist religious and cultural understanding. Constructed in the Japanese architectural style, the Buddha Temple complex offers a serene ambiance akin to that of a Buddhist monk. The Buddha Temple Complex is one of the four schools of Tibetan Buddhism. The name “Nyigma” refers to this temple complex, whereas the names Sakya, Kagyu, and Geluk refer to other schools.

Each visitor experiences the pure essence of Buddhism with the silent Doon Valley scenery and elaborate decorative memories at heart.

There are several retail and dining establishments in the Shopping Complex within the temple complex. A good selection of Tibetan-language publications as well as sacred Buddhist texts are available. Additionally, several stores sell clothing, handicrafts, and artwork created by Buddhists. Approximately 500 lamas reside and study within the Buddha Temple compound. The management of the Buddha Temple looks after the lamas, giving them free lodging, clothes, food, and many other amenities.

The temple’s gardens and stores are open seven days a week, however, on Sundays it is open to the public exclusively. Entering the Buddha temple’s main hall requires visitors to take off their shoes.
