Gwaldam Uttarakhand
Gwaldam is a tranquil small hamlet on the boundary of Garhwal and Kumaon hills, nestled among verdant forests and apple orchards, with a breathtaking view of the Himalayan peaks Nanda Devi (7817 m), Trishul (7120 m), and Nanda Ghuti (6309 m).
This charming little hill station is located in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district at an elevation of 1700 meters above sea level. It is located on the highway that connects the Garhwal and Kumaon regions.
Gwaldam Hill Station
Gwaldam, nestled in the forests, is a tiny heaven with its pleasant weather and pristine tranquillity. The entire area up to Talwar is densely packed with some of the most stunning orchids. A 3 km trek through the bewitchingly gorgeous environment in the company of unnamed flowers, infinite springs, and numerous birds will take you to Badhangarhi temple, located on a small ridge. From here, you may get a peek at the Himalayas’ never-before-seen wonders.
The legendary Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra passes through Gwaldam, and the walk to the enigmatic Roopkund Lake is Gwaldam’s most well-known trekking trip. It is about 38 km from the well-known hill station of Kausani. Gwaldam is still a relatively unknown and undiscovered tourist location, making it worthwhile to explore. The route from Gwaldam goes through lush forests and terraced fields studded with Tharali and Narain Bagar houses up to the Ranikhet-Pandukholi road.
Gwaldam History
Gwaldam has always been a historically rich location due to its location in the center of two significant former kingdoms, notably Uttarakhand’s Garhwal and Kumaon areas. When we discuss Gwaldam, we can not forget about the Gwaldam Battle, which took place between the Garhwal Army and the Kumaon Chand Dynasty.
According to some historians, the battle of Gwaldam took place about 1590 A.D. The region witnessed the hierarchy of various provinces, including the Garhwal monarchy, Chands, Gorkhas, and the British. The toy town of Gwaldam is now part of Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district.

Angora Farm
The state-run Angora farm sits 1 km ahead of Gwaldam’s main bazaar, which opened in 1987. The farm includes five Shila, each of which can hold 35-37 animals. During the day, the goats are led to graze in surrounding meadows, leaving the babies securely behind. There are 60 enormous German Angora rabbits in one enclosure.
Gwalnaag
Gwalnaag is a beautiful spot in Gwaldam that provides an unimpeded view of the snow-capped Himalayan peaks. This lovely spot is located in the Dhalua meadow.

Badhangarhi Temple
The temple was built under the Katyuri dynasty, which governed the region from the 8th to the 12th century, and is dedicated to Goddess Kali, also known as Dakshin Kali and Lord Shiva.
