While there are many legends about this temple, the most prevalent mythology about this temple goes back to the period when Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati’s two sons, Lord Kartik and Lord Ganesha, were commanded to circumambulate the globe seven times. Lord Kartik embarked on the journey, undertaking the challenging task of taking seven rounds of the universe, whilst Lord Ganesha took seven rounds of his parents, referring to them as his universe. Lord Shiva, pleased by Ganesha’s wisdom, granted him the honor of being worshipped first.
When Lord Kartik returned and learned how Lord Ganesha had finished the mission and obtained Lord Shiva’s approval, he was furious. According to the Puranas, an enraged Lord Kartik fled Kailash, his parents’ home, and came to Kronch Parvat. According to mythology, Lord Kartik then proceeded to a mountain named Srisailam in Southern India, where he was known as Skanda, one of his numerous titles in addition to Lord Muruga, Lord Murugan, and Lord Subramanya. Others claim that Lord Kartik was so enraged that he sacrificed his corporeal body at Kronch Parvat in order to please his parents.
