Kuari Pass Trek History
Lord Curzon, Eric Shipton, and Bill Tilman utilized the Kuari Pass Trek in their pioneering investigations of the area in 1905, and it became famous. Routes to Reach Kuari Pass
There are four routes to reach Kuari Pass:-
Trek Route 1 or Curzon Trail: Ghat, Ramni, Sanatoli to Kuari Pass ( 06 days)
Ghat is a tiny, friendly village in the Nandakini Valley, about 19 km from Nandprayag. The trekking path from Ghat to the Kuari Pass passes through Ramni, Sarkot, Jhenjipatni, Pana, Irani, Sanatoli, and Domabhiti.
Trek Route 2 : Joshimath, Auli, and Gorson to Kuari Pass (05 days)
The trekking path from Auli to Gailgarh and Kuari winds through Bugyals and lush green woods, with the Himalayas constantly in sight. The camping grounds are a true treat, with rolling hills covered in lush green grass and located in stunning natural settings. There is only a goat road from Tali to Chitrakantha, therefore horses and mules cannot go here.
Kuari Pass Trek Suggested Itinerary
Day 01: Rishikesh – Joshimath (255 km)
Take the state bus from Rishikesh to Joshimath. At Rishikesh, marvel at the magnificent sight of the heavenly river Ganga flowing in perpetuity. Joshimath, which serves as a centre for pilgrims journeying to Badrinath and Hemkund Sahib, is only 7-8 hours away. When you get to Joshimath, check into a guest house and spend the night.
Day 02: Joshimath- Chitrakhana (Drive to Dhak Village- 12km/1hr, Trek- 6km/4hrs)
Travel 12 km to Dhak village, where the trek to Kuari Pass begins. Pass through the hemlock, oak, and rhododendron forests. After a 6-kilometer descent, you will arrive at the beautiful green meadows and the 3,310-meter-high Chitrakhana campground. Enjoy a panoramic view of the snow-covered Himalayan peaks beyond Joshimath, including the enormous Chaukhamba peaks at 7,138 metres above sea level. Shepherds can also be seen grazing their flocks here.
Soon, a lovely vista of a little spring line will appear, leading you to the velvety meadows. Pitch your tents among the breathtaking views and snuggle into your sleeping bags.
Day 03: Chitrakhana-Tali Top (Trek- 6 km)
Day 04: Tali Top- Kuari Pass via Khullara-Tali Top (Trek- 15 km)
Start early because this is a full-day journey. This trek begins with a moderate ascent to Khullara Top and then continues through a snow area to Kuari Top. You may feel the fresh breeze blowing away your cares while admiring an unobstructed view of the magnificent Himalayan peaks such as Nanda Devi (7,816 m), India’s highest peak.
The mountains surround Kuari Top, producing an outlet in between where the Rishi Ganga forges a path through the steep gorges before emptying into the Alaknanda River. Return to Tali Top, build a fire, and have a delicious meal at the campground.
Day 05: Tali Top-Joshimath via Auli (Trek- 8 km, Drive- 13 km)
Day 06: Joshimath/Auli – Rishikesh
Say goodbye to the hills, have breakfast, and leave early for Rishikesh.

How To Reach Kuari Pass
By Road=> Do you intend to begin your travel via road? Then proceed to Rishikesh, which has decent road connectivity from various areas. However, in order to go here by road, you must have prior expertise in traveling/driving in the highlands. Apart from driving yourself, you may also take a cab or board inter-state/private buses to get here for a reasonable price.
By Train=> If you are taking the train, get out at Haridwar Station. Haridwar is well-connected by train to a number of Indian towns and cities, including Varanasi, Lucknow, and others. When you arrive at the station, consider renting a cab or another mode of transportation, such as a bus, to continue your journey to Joshimath.
