Sunderdhunga Trek Itinerary
BAGESHWAR
The Sunderdhunga Trek commences upon reaching Bageshwar. Take some time to rest and explore local attractions such as the ancient Baghnath Temple. If you arrive early and are eager to extend your journey, you have the option to continue the trek towards Khati.
KHATI
The trek kicks off with a scenic drive to Kharkiya via Bharari and Loharkhet. The journey continues with a 1.5-hour trek to the picturesque village of Khati, situated at an altitude of 7,216 feet. This first leg of the trek seamlessly blends a 5-hour drive with a captivating trek, offering a perfect introduction to the diverse landscapes and natural beauty that characterize the Kumaon region.
JATOLI
On the third day of the Sunderdhunga trek, you will embark on a 14-kilometer trek to Jatoli, commencing from the village of Khati. This village marks the final settlement along the route to the Pindari and Kafni glaciers. Today, you will trek through dense Rhododendron cover, providing a picturesque backdrop. Arrive at Jatoli in the evening and settle in for the night.
KATHALIYA
On the fourth day, a 13-kilometer trek awaits you, leading to Kathaliya. Along the journey, you’ll traverse through dense alpine covers, and the level of difficulty remains moderate. The trek concludes in the evening upon reaching Kathaliya, the final inhabited village along the route to the Sunderdhunga glacier.
SUNDERDHUNGA
Today, the fruits of your hard work await as you prepare for a trek to Sunderdhunga after breakfast. You have the option to choose between trekking via Makoli Top or Sukhram Cave. However, amidst the beauty of the surroundings, it’s essential to keep in mind that you have to return to Kathaliya on the same day. So, savor the experience but stay mindful of the trek back.
JATOLI
On the sixth day, the descent begins. Commence your trek in the morning, covering a distance of 13 kilometers to reach Jatoli. The journey is expected to take around 5 hours. Spend the night in Jatoli to rejuvenate for the continuation of the Sunderdhunga trek.
DHAKURI
Begin your day early for a 14-kilometer trek back to Dhakuri. So that you can reachDhakuri in time and enjoy your overnight stay in Dhakuri.
LOHARKHET AND BAGESHWAR
On the last day of the trek, start early to reach Loharkhet before noon. The trek from Dhakuri to Loharkhet takes about 3 to 4 hours. Grab a quick meal in Loharkhet, then arrange for a cab or jeep to Bageshwar. Say your goodbyes, thank the guides, and reflect on the trek’s memories. Finally, head back to Bageshwar, wrapping up this memorable adventure.
