History of Tiffin Top Nainital
Tiffin Top is alternatively called Dorothy’s Seat. Mrs. Dorothy Kellett was a British Army officer Colonel J.P. Kellett’s wife. Dorothy Kellett, an English painter died in a plane crash while visiting her children. Dorothy Kellett used to sit where Dorothy’s Seat is situated and paint the beautiful city and its surrounding areas.
Tiffin Top is a stonework bench built in memory of Dorothy Kellett by her husband J.P. Made by Kellett. This hilltop shows the love and devotion of a husband towards his wife.
Later on, the place became a famous picnic spot for the kings who ruled it and hence it was officially converted into a picnic spot and locally named Tiffin Top, which is the name given to the packed food eaten during the day. To reach this view, tourists have to climb about 4 km.
There is a beautiful view of the Himalayas while crawling through a hilly path to reach this beautiful picnic spot. Trekking from the road point takes around 2 hours (two-way). Travelers can also choose to take a horse ride to reach Dorothy’s Seat.

There is no entry fee for exploring Tiffin Top. However, a pony ride can cost between Rs. 500 to Rs. 700 for one side. The pony ride starts from a designated place called Bada Patthar.

You can visit Dorothy’s Seat anytime on all days of the week, but best if seen between 8:00 am to 5:30 pm as daylight adds to the beauty of the place.
