Trekking Routes to Reach Ali and Bedini Bugyal

There are two Trekking routes to Ali and Bedini Bugyal. Trekking to Ali Bugyal and Bedni Bugyal can begin at Lohajung Pass or Wan Village. Lohajung is well-connected by road and serves as the final roadhead. 

  • Route 1: From Lohajung (Trek Distance: 20 km)
  • Route 2: From Wan village (Trek Distance: 10 km)

Ali Bedni Bugyal Trek:- Suggested Itinerary

Day 01: Kathgodam to Lohajung (Drive- 265 km, 10Hrs)

To go to Kathgodam, use an overnight train. There are two ways to go to Lohajung from Kathgodam. If you are in a bigger group, taking a cab to Lohajung will save you a lot of time. If you are on a tight budget, you can go by public transport from Kathgodam to Gwaldam via bus/shared cab and then from Gwaldam to Lohajung. Lohajung has affordable lodging options.

Day 02: Lohajung to Didina village (Trek- 10 km)

 

Begin your trek from Lohajung to Raun Bagad after breakfast. This scenic road is filled with beautiful views of nature. On the route, you will pass by a peaceful river named Neel Ganga, which has a little bridge built over it. The ascent after crossing the bridge is difficult, and it takes over 3 hours to reach Didina village. The route winds through a lush forest, making it ideal for wildlife lovers. You may spend the night in Didina hamlet in a homestay or in a tent at Didina campground.

Day 03: Didina village to Ali Bugyal (Trek- 10 km)

Begin your trek early in the morning to appreciate Ali Bugyal’s true beauty. The route will take you to a lush woodland once you pass the way to the vast green carpet. The scent of oak trees will undoubtedly captivate you. As one climbs higher, the geography changes due to the advent of coniferous trees such as deodar, pine, and spruce. You will soon arrive at Tolkaan, where you will get your first glimpse of the small meadows. 

When you reach the ridge, you will get a 360-degree panorama of Ali Bugyal’s lush green meadows. The peak of Ali Bugyal is about an hour’s drive away. The rest of the journey to the forest department’s fiber huts is pleasant.

Day 04: Ali Bugyal to Bedni Bugyal (Trek- 3 km)

This is the day your three-day wait will come to an end. Trek from Ali Bugyal to Bedni Bugyal (3300m) over a large area of beautiful alpine meadows. The breathtaking vista of the Himalayan grazing area and snow-capped Himalayan peaks will bring you to life. Thousands of colorful flowers are in full bloom in Bedni’s lovely meadow. 

 
Bedni Kund, a natural lake in the middle of this grassland, is a sight to behold! It is near a little shrine where devotees pay their respects throughout their stay in BedniBugyal. After visiting the surroundings, return to Bedni Bugyal for supper and an overnight stay.

Day 05: BedniBugyal– Wan - Lohajung  (Trek- 12 km | Drive – 12 km)

After breakfast, pack your belongings and take about turn to Wan Village. The trek is downward and takes around 3-4 hours to finish. Local taxis will take you the last 12 km to Lohajung from Wan. Have supper and spend the night in Lohajung.

Day 06: Lohajung–Rishikesh/Kathgodam

Drive to Rishikesh or Kathgodam after breakfast. On the way, have a good lunch. You will most likely arrive at Rishikesh/Kathgodam in the evening. Check in to a hotel for supper and an overnight stay upon arrival.

Best Time To Visit Ali Bedni Bugyal

The best time to go on the Ali Bedni Bugyal Trek is between mid-March and June (pre-monsoon/summer) and early September to the end of October (post-monsoon/autumn). However, the autumn season is regarded as ideal for trekking and photography enthusiasts because of the beautiful blue sky and favorable weather conditions. And if getting snow on this path is your first objective, plan your trip between late December and mid-February. 

How To Reach Ali Bedni Bugyal

The trek begins in Lohajang Pass, which is well-connected by motorable highways. The hike to Bedni Bugyal and Ali Bugyal is simple because it runs through the village. The trek descends for 7 kilometers from Lohajang Pass before gently ascending for 4 km to Wan village. The 9-kilometer moderate journey from Wan takes you through a dense forest of rhododendrons and oaks.

By Road:- 
  • Road Route from Delhi:- Delhi – Meerut – Haridwar – Rishikesh – Rudraprayag – Karnaprayag – Lohajang Pass – Trekking (20 km) – Bedni Bugyal
  • Alternate road route via Nainital and Almora:- Delhi – Moradabad – Nainital – Almora – Someshwar – Gwaldam –Lohajung Pass – Trekking (20 km) – Bedni Bugyal

By Train:- The nearest railway station to Lohajung is Kathgodam, which is 222 km away. However, if you intend to go via the Garhwal region, Rishikesh train station is also a viable alternative. Local taxis are available at both train stations to take you to Lohajung.

By Air:- Pantnagar Airport, located 256 kilometers from Lohajung, is the closest domestic airport to Ali Bedni Bugyal. If you want to go via the Haridwar/Rishikesh route, the nearest airport is Dehradun’s Jolly Grant Airport.
