Brahmatal Trek Mythology

According to Hindu legend, the magnificent Brahmatal is the location where the creator, Lord Brahma, performed a rigorous penance. Brahma Ji reportedly meditated here for numerous years. As a result, the location gained its name from it.

The Himalayan landscape from the Jatropani summit includes Chaukhamba (7138m), Neelkantha (6597m), and Kamet (7756m). The path to Jatropani Peak begins at Brahmatal Top and proceeds westward to reveal the boulder zone before climbing to Jatropani West Peak at 4071 meters. 

Jatoparni Top, also known as Khamila Top, is the highest peak in Brahmatal. During the trip, you may observe the Kumaon ranges’ Mrigthuni, Devtoli, and Maikoti peaks. This is the opposite ridge of the well-known Roopkund trek and provides a bird’s-eye view of the path, which includes Ali Bugyal, Bedni Bugyal, Roopkund, and Junargali, as well as the famed Ronty saddle.

The only food you can eat is what you bring with you. Brahmtal Trek: Suggested Itinerary

Day 01: Kathgodam-Lohajung (Drive:225 km, 10 hours)

Ranikhet Express will take you to Kathgodam. There are two ways to go to Lohajung from Kathgodam. If you are traveling in a group, taking a cab to Lohajung is the best alternative. If you want to save money, divide your journey into two parts: Kathgodam to Gwaldam by bus/shared cab and then Gwaldam to Lohajung. Lohajung has affordable lodging options.

Day 2: Lohajung – Bekaltal (6 kms)

Begin your trek to Bekaltal from Lohajung via Mandoli village. The trek takes around 4 hours and passes through rhododendron and oak forests. Stay overnight in tents.

Day 3: Bekaltal – Brahmatal (8 kms)

After breakfast, begin your journey to Brahmatal, passing through magnificent lush green woods and gorgeous meadows. Brahmatal Lake is located at an elevation of 3,400 meters. Stay  overnight in tents.

Day 4: Brahmatal – Daldum via Brahmatal Peak (5 kms)

Today climb Brahmatal, which offers one of the most spectacular vistas of the Himalayas, particularly Trishul and Nandaghunti peaks. Daldum is only 3 hours from the summit. Stay here overnight in tents.

Day 5: Daldum – Lohajung (4 km)

Trekked back to Lohajung from Daldum after breakfast. On the journey down, Lohajung is only 3.5 km from Daldum.

Day 6: Lohajung – Kathgodam

Today is the last day of the tour. Return to Kathgodam, where you may take a bus or train back home.

Best Time To Do Brahmatal Trek

As earlier mentioned, Brahmatal Trek is well-known for its winter Trekking experience. Brahmatal Trek is best visited between mid-December and early February. This is when the weather is frigid and the sights of the snow-capped mountains are spectacular. However, if you do not like the cold or a busy route, you may go in the summer or autumn months. Just make sure you carry weather-appropriate clothes.

  • The last ATM is at Dewal, 25 km before Lohajung, and it is mostly out of cash. Make an advance withdrawal from Haridwar, Rishikesh, Dehradun, Kathgodam, Almora, or Kausani.

  • It is best to avoid trekking during the monsoon season since the path might be treacherous and the terrain can be prone to unexpected landslides and roadblocks.

How to reach Brahmatal

By Road: Kathgodam is well connected by motorable routes to important northern towns. From Delhi to Kathgodam, there are several bus options. Depending on your demands, you may choose between semi-deluxe, deluxe, and AC Volvo. In addition, Uttarakhand State Road Transport Corporation buses from Anand Vihar ISBT connect Kathgodam with Delhi on a regular basis.

By Train: Kathgodam Railway Station is the nearest train station. There are various trains that link Kathgodam to other important cities such as Delhi, Lucknow, and Kolkata, among others. Trains to Kathgodam run often since it is the gateway to Uttarakhand’s Kumaon area.
